Hey Plant Lovers!
If you’ve got an Aparajita (Butterfly Pea) plant, you already know how beautifully it blooms all winter. But as soon as the cold fades, your once-thriving plant might start looking sad and lifeless. Don’t worry! With a little care at the right time—February or March, when the weather gets slightly warmer—you can bring it back to life and get it flowering again. Let’s get started!
Check if Your Plant is Alive
First things first—let’s make sure your plant is still alive! If you see new leaves sprouting, that’s a good sign. But if there are no leaves, gently scratch the lower branches or stem with your fingernail. If it looks green underneath, your plant is alive and kicking! If it’s brown and dry, sadly, it’s time to say goodbye and get a new one.
Pruning for a Fresh Start
Grab a clean, sharp cutter or pruner and sanitize it (you don’t want to spread infections to your plant!). Now, start pruning:
- Remove all thin and weak branches from the bottom.
- Cut off any dry or dead branches.
- To give your plant a good shape, leave about 3 feet of the lower part intact and trim everything above that. Since Aparajita grows like a vine, this helps it grow back healthier!
Clean Up the Soil
Now, clear out all the dry leaves and debris from the soil. Loosen the soil around the edges of the pot, but be careful not to disturb the roots. This helps with aeration and better nutrient absorption.
Feed Your Plant Right
Time to give your Aparajita some organic love! Here’s the perfect fertilizer mix:
- 2 handfuls of vermicompost (or 1 handful of cow dung manure)
- 1 handful of neem cake powder (for pest protection)
- 1 teaspoon of PROM (Phosphate Rich Organic Manure)
Mix these well and add them around the edges of the pot where you loosened the soil. Cover it up with the removed soil and give it a little water—just enough to let the nutrients soak in. Since the plant doesn’t have many leaves yet, avoid overwatering. Just water whenever the topsoil looks dry.
Sunlight is the Key
Now, just place your plant in a sunny spot and let nature do its magic! In a few weeks, you’ll start seeing fresh new growth, and soon, your Aparajita will be blooming beautifully again.
A Little Extra Care Goes a Long Way
If your plant’s roots need a stronger boost to recover after winter dormancy, a light root tonic made from natural extracts can work wonders to strengthen root systems and support fresh growth. Similarly, if you spot the early signs of pest or fungal stress on leaves, an all-natural pest protection spray can help you stay ahead without harming pollinators or beneficial insects.
